Why verification matters in the Moroccan oil industry
The global market for Moroccan argan oil and prickly pear seed oil has grown significantly, but so has the prevalence of adulteration, mislabelling, and fraudulent organic claims. Industry reports indicate that a large portion of “argan oil” sold globally contains adulterants or substitutions.
Common industry fraud patterns include:
- Dilution with cheaper carrier oils (such as sunflower or soybean) while claiming 100% purity.
- False organic certification claims with no verifiable registry listings.
- Macerate oils sold as authentic seed oils (for example prickly pear macerate vs. cold-pressed seed oil, representing a huge cost difference).
- Facility misrepresentation – claiming in-house production while sourcing from unknown intermediaries.
Our approach to transparency directly addresses these issues. Every certification on this page links to independent verification, and our documentation chain (ONSSA authorization, ECOCERT facility inspection, USDA OID registration, and Morocco Foodex lot inspection) confirms continuous custody and organic integrity.
Our certifications – in depth
ECOCERT Organic Certification (EU Regulation 2018/848)
ECOCERT certification under EU Regulation 2018/848 is one of the strictest organic standards globally, requiring traceability from raw material sourcing through final product packaging.
What ECOCERT verifies
- Source verification: Wild-harvested argan from authorized UNESCO biosphere zones; farm-grown prickly pear from our ECOCERT-certified 120-hectare farm in the Souss region.
- Processing standards: Cold-pressing facility inspection, temperature controls, cleaning procedures and contamination prevention protocols.
- Traceability systems: Batch-to-source documentation connecting every bottle to specific harvest zones and dates.
- Annual compliance audits: On-site facility audits, harvest area checks, and documentation review.
For B2B buyers, this means that when you see “organic argan oil” or “organic prickly pear seed oil” on a COA or spec sheet, that claim has been verified by an independent third party with direct access to our facility and documentation.
USDA Organic Integrity Database (OID)
Registration in the USDA Organic Integrity Database confirms that our operation meets the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) standards for products destined for the US market.
What USDA OID registration verifies
- Our operation is a certified organic producer/handler recognised by USDA.
- We are in active certified status, with listed categories and products.
- The certifying agent (ECOCERT) is USDA-accredited.
- We meet NOP requirements for production, handling and labelling.
Procurement and QA teams can independently confirm our status by looking up NOP ID 7882603400 in the USDA database.
FDA-registered facility & ONSSA authorization
Our production facility in Agadir operates under ONSSA authorization and is registered with the US FDA for cosmetic ingredient manufacturing.
What ONSSA and FDA registration confirm
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP): Facility layout, process flow, and hygiene meet national requirements.
- Sanitation and hygiene: Cleaning, pest control and personnel hygiene protocols are documented and verified.
- Equipment qualification: Cold-press lines, filtration systems and packaging lines are approved for food/cosmetic use.
- Regulatory recognition: Our facility is known to both Moroccan and US regulators.
For buyers exporting finished cosmetics to the US, sourcing from an FDA-registered facility simplifies ingredient documentation during regulatory checks.
Morocco Foodex per-lot inspection
Morocco Foodex performs independent inspection and certification of export shipments on a lot-by-lot basis.
- Product identity: Laboratory checks confirm that the shipped oil matches the declared product.
- Certification match: Organic documentation is checked against ECOCERT records.
- Packaging and labelling: Visual checks ensure compliance with agreed specifications and destination requirements.
- Batch documentation: Export documentation is matched to batch numbers and COAs.
This additional layer goes beyond facility-level certification and protects buyers at the shipment level.
Verifiable documentation for each batch
Certificate of Analysis (COA)
Every batch is released with a Certificate of Analysis that includes physical, chemical and safety parameters relevant to cosmetic and food applications.
Typical COA content
- Identity & appearance: Colour, clarity, odour and physical description.
- Key analytical values: Peroxide value (PV), free fatty acids (FFA), moisture and volatile content.
- Fatty acid profile: GC analysis confirming characteristic pattern for argan oil or prickly pear seed oil.
- Purity & authenticity: Sterol profile, tocopherol content and other markers to detect adulteration.
- Safety data: Heavy metals, pesticide residues, microbial limits, PAH (where applicable).
Redacted COA samples are available for download on this page. Full COAs with batch numbers and customer references are provided to buyers under NDA or as part of their shipments.
MSDS / SDS
Safety Data Sheets are available in formats compatible with EU-GHS/CLP, US-OSHA HazCom and ISO 11014. They include transport information, hazard classification (or non-classification), safe handling instructions and emergency procedures.
Technical specification sheets
Specification sheets complete the technical picture for formulators and QA teams. They typically include:
- INCI name and CAS numbers (where applicable).
- Botanical name, plant part and origin.
- Extraction and processing method (e.g., cold-pressed, unrefined, deodorized).
- Standard analytical ranges for PV, FFA and other key metrics.
- Storage recommendations and shelf-life data.
- Recommended usage levels in common cosmetic product types.
Trademark registration
Our Purificados trademark is officially registered with OMPIC (Morocco Industrial and Commercial Property Office), confirming our long-term presence and protection of the brand in our home market.
How procurement teams can verify our claims
Step 1 – Verify ECOCERT status
- Open the ECOCERT public directory.
- Search for “RED MOON HOLDINGS SARL” or our facility code.
- Check the certification scope (products and activities covered).
- Verify that validity dates are current and there are no gaps.
Step 2 – Verify USDA OID listing
- Visit the USDA Organic Integrity Database.
- Search using NOP ID 7882603400 or our company name.
- Confirm active status and certified categories.
- Confirm that ECOCERT is listed as the certifier.
Step 3 – Review downloadable certificates
From this page, you can download our ECOCERT certificate, USDA OID PDF, ONSSA authorization, Foodex sample and trademark certificate. Your QA or regulatory team can file these internally for your vendor master file.
Step 4 – Request batch-specific documents
Once you are ready to proceed with a quote or purchase, we provide:
- Latest COA for the relevant batch.
- Lot-specific Morocco Foodex certificate for export shipments.
- Final specification sheet matched to your SKU (pack size, grade, etc.).
- MSDS in the required format for your market.
What sets our verification apart
Full-chain documentation from land to bottle
Because we are vertically integrated, we can document every step from prickly pear fruit on our farm and argan fruit from authorized zones, through kernel processing, oil pressing, filtration and packaging.
Public registries, not just PDFs
Every major claim on this page is backed by a public registry entry (ECOCERT, USDA OID, OMPIC). This is an important difference compared to suppliers who only send certificate PDFs that cannot be externally verified.
Per-lot inspection and COA
In addition to facility-level certifications, we rely on per-lot inspection (Foodex) and per-batch COAs, giving you a much higher level of assurance for each shipment your company receives.
Dossier preparation for vendor onboarding
We know that vendor onboarding can be slow and documentation-heavy. To make this easier, we prepare complete dossiers that your procurement, QA and regulatory teams can review and file internally.
Standard dossier contents
- ECOCERT organic certificate (latest version).
- USDA OID profile PDF.
- ONSSA authorization certificate.
- FDA facility registration details.
- Technical specification sheet for the selected product.
- Typical or batch-specific COA.
- MSDS/SDS in the requested format.
- Foodex inspection certificate for export shipments.
- Allergen, GMO-free and animal-testing policy statements.
- Halal/Kosher documentation where applicable.
For larger or regulated customers, we can also provide additional statements and lab reports as required by your internal procedures.
